Episode 001 Vaclav Havel

001-havel.jpg

We are sitting at the table. Me and a few friends go through the yearbook, white tablecloth, place settings, napkins. Suddenly someone asked the question - what is chateaubriand? One says the sauce, the other that it was a famous French writer and diplomat. I threw it casually - it's steak. And that was the beginning of the story of how Vaclav Havel himself came to "Świętoszka". After all, he was not alone because, as we read in the press release, he was accompanied by Bronisław Geremek and Adam Michnik with a group of friends. What was served? First, sour rye soup, then chateubriand, or beef steak, and red wine. Today, a similar menu - sour rye soup was served, and then something that resembled steak in consistency, but turned out to be specially prepared veal liver. Heaven in your mouth, slightly hard, juicy, let all the pork chops and steaks hide.

Well, who was it knows.🎩

Episode 003 Agnieszka Osiecka

osiecka-rodowicz-rynek-starego-miasta.jpg

Agnieszka Osiecka visited Świętoszek's doorstep in July 1988. Staromiejskie cellars always in the summer, provided a much-desired respite from the heat. Here, each toast could be raised with chilled champagne, which "on the surface" evaporated too quickly. Our biggest star among songwriters (wrote 2000) is also an unparalleled poet, director, journalist and author of plays. She had this habit of always writing on paper napkins while sitting in a cafe or restaurant. Sometimes something longer, sometimes a sketch, sometimes a finished poem. It is not easy to grasp the whole her work, because she wrote her Diaries all her life. The selection from her notebooks is only 6 volumes, but how substantial. Francuska St. Coffee, a cigarette and a glass of wine gave her the joy of creating, and in the café atmosphere, the songs sang themselves.

Episode 005 Czeslaw Niemen

325144207_707793554302495_6188931207175983034_n.jpeg

Czesław Niemen We are starting a new year 2023. And one would like to say after Czesław Niemen that "This world is strange". Still - and for reasons beyond our control. Czesław Niemen warned us and inspired us, especially with Norwid's poetry. An underestimated poet whose works Czesław Niemen returned to us in his song. It is difficult to write about great artists in the context of restaurant dishes, but he was a man who liked good food and in a sense a gourmet. Any culinary experience is also sensitive, because only a gourmet will find the cook's artistry. Czesław Niemen has honored the thresholds of "Świętoszka" several times, and yet he has never been a man of the world of artistic trails and successive restaurants. He had more important things to say, especially when he introduced synthesizers and moogs to music. His works and performances have gone down in history, and the innovative "Mateusz IV" (electronic music) broke success records for the times. Because it was completely different music. The same is with the kitchen (traditional and modern). The master loved Lithuanian cuisine, but he was an artist and appreciated the subtlety of not only properly combined notes, but also flavors. It was an extraordinary moment, which he downplayed with his usual humor. In company, modest, but with appetite.

Well, who was it knows.🎩

Episode 007 Edward Dziewoński

dziewonski-edward.jpg

An extraordinary man, creator of several cabarets, author, actor, director, playwright. Nobody believed he was born in Moscow. Director with a "mine" of ideas. He was forever remembered with a wonderful and unforgettable monologue "Sęk". They had such a conversation with Michnikowski, on the basis of Jewish szmonces, that it went down in history, not only in cabaret. He wrote, played and loved to feast. 23 years with the same wife - it's almost a mission (on whose part?). We owe him the humor of the gloomy years and we should also dedicate a dish to him, or rather a party "a la furchette" or standing. If they sit, they will not come out, and if they stand, they will worship. No one made us laugh like the master. What's more, in his cabaret you could get a certificate of innate intelligence, because we laughed at the right moments. We know what he ate in "Świętoszek" and with whom - some topics oscillate around cognac, others are a "pure" memory, as they used to say before the war.

Well, who was it knows.🎩

Episode 009 Wojciech Mlynarski

mlynarski-wojciech.jpg

Wojciech Młynarski - also frequented Świętoszek. In fact, if he was still alive and could visit Warsaw restaurants, he should be provided with free consumption. He was the only one who wrote the famous gastronomic anthem (as it was once called) - "We are going into Poland, dear gentlemen", brilliantly performed by Wiesław Gołas. This extremely talented poet and singer, as well as a stage performer and satirist, wrote over 2,000 songs. A song about a Pole with his face buried in a breaded pork chop he wrote in one night on the "Batory" ship. Probably it was a return from concerts in the USA with the "Dudek" cabaret. One of the most recognizable songs was the song "With whom you will be as bad as with me" - especially performed by Kalina Jędrusik. We can always tell nice guests with whom you will be so good in this "Świętoszek" In the end, "the roller will come and level", so "let's do our job" - we can always ask "Girls be good to us in the spring". This is how the tests of his songs passed into the colloquial language. Wojciech Młynarski's signature is one of many at a gala dinner given by Agata Młynarska, of course, in "Świętoszek" in June 1993.

Episode 002 Slawomir Mrożek

smrozek.jpeg

35 years ago, Sławomir Mrożek visited the home of "Świętoszka" - an unparalleled master of words, a short story with a punch line, a man with an extraordinary sense of humor - an outstanding playwright (about 40 theater plays), an excellent draftsman. What Mrożek ate was not recorded, but he left his thanks in the guest book. In the third volume of "Diaries" (p. 706) he wrote: From November 12 to November 19 in Poland - premiere of "Portrait" - Polish Theater in Warsaw. So on November 14, 1987, after the theater - to "Świętoszek" (he lived in France at the time). Even if some of you do not write dramas and fortunately do not experience any dramas - we also invite you, you can after the performance or during, after the first intermission. There is also a tasty spectacle, for example with "the art of meat" in the lead role.

Episode 004 Ryszard Kapuściński

kapuscinski-ksiazki.jpg

Ryszard Kapuściński confirmed his presence in "Świętoszek" with an entry in the guest book - it was September 1988. This brilliant reporter, hailed as the king, even the "emperor" of journalists, a traveler, and above all a widely read author, was an extremely prolific artist. During his lifetime, 26 volumes were published, including volumes of poetry, and after 2007, 5 more volumes were published. His selected works published by "Agora" in 2008 include 16 volumes. He was also an extraordinary connoisseur - he appreciated good food having starvation experiences of his wartime childhood behind him. As a long-time PAP correspondent in Africa, Latin America, Asia - he ate from many ovens and from many bowls. Let's listen to the master's words: "Any amount of food disappears here immediately and without a trace. Everything that is there is eaten, down to the last crumb, no one has any supplies, they would not even have a place to store them, something to lock them in" from the book "Ebony". In correspondence from America: "I left American Fork for the airport in the morning. Breakfast - inedible. What they call scrambled eggs is made of powder. Everything is powdered, packed, canned" - from "Lapidarium VI". In Świętoszek, he was enchanted by the beauty of the ladies, the kindness of the gentlemen, and above all, he admired the delicious cuisine. And you can try it too - not in Asia or America, but in Warsaw's Old Town.

Episode 006 Kalina Jędrusik Mała

kalina02.jpg

Kalina Jędrusik Small, modest with unusual stage conditions. However we would understand it. Well, let's make it simple - such an image of a wonderful actress of the stage and screen in a way imposed itself. An intelligent, sensitive and undeniable beauty woman will always be perceived in the context of men's perception of the world. Her "emploi" was deliberately set up to provoke, to annoy any man who simply could not refuse either a dance or a communal rosary. There was more to it than marketing, provocation
and scenic fun as real pleasures. Dramatic actress
and comedic, extremely suggestive with her beauty and stage acting, irreplaceable in her roles in the film. Every day witty, kind, nice and playing with her "image" diva breaking hearts. We don't know too much about Mrs. Kalina's culinary preferences,
but in "Świętoszek" she liked everything. You can also try. Perhaps the drink "Kalina" (it is done) will beat the drink "4th armored" everything will be in the development and arrangement of the new one.

Episode 008 Robert Anthony DeNiro Jr.

robert-deniro.jpg

Robert Anthony DeNiro Jr. he is a world-famous actor and he also honored
"Holiday" thresholds. The famous director, winner of two Oscars (Academy Awards), was offered a role in Roman Polański's film about Lech Wałęsa, the leader of "Solidarity".

For this purpose, they first flew to Gdańsk to meet Lech Wałęsa, and then to Warsaw, among others. for a meeting with a group of actors in the "Świętoszek" restaurant. Everyone was probably in a good mood because De Niro himself signed our guest book, which was quite a feat for an outstanding actor and American to write the name of the restaurant in Polish. It happened on September 20, 1989, which was described by Zuzanna Łapicka ("Add as friends") in her interesting memoirs. As Mrs. Zuzanna writes, at that time "Świętoszek" was the only representative pub where distinguished guests could be invited. The pub also sounds proud - it depends on what's inside and on the plate - it's worth checking out.

Episode 010 Professor Bronislaw Geremek

bronze-geremek.jpg

Professor Bronisław Geremek is a historical figure, because he was not only an outstanding scientist, but above all an excellent politician. He was our Old Town neighbor (he lived on Piwna Street and Piekarska Street). Neighbors called him - Mr. with a pipe. Privately very warm and cordial, as a historian he had a deeper and more thoughtful view on many matters. He used to visit "Świętoszek" with many delegations of various levels, always elegant and subdued. He was always himself, no matter what his current role was. He introduced our country to the European Union in 2004, chaired the Freedom Union, and was a member of the Sejm and the European Parliament many times. Merits, medals and titles would suffice for a large group of people, and yet he never boasted and came down to our cellars for good food and a surge of intellectual thought.
